In addition to specific requirements based on position type and GS grade level, the basic requirements for a Contract Specialist GS-1102 position include meeting the following criteria:
1. A four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major in any field;
2. At least 24 semester hours in any combination of the following fields: accounting, business, finance, law, contracts, purchasing, economics, industrial management, marketing, quantitative methods, or organization and management;
3. Experience in a GS-1102 or contracting position in the Federal Government with the authority to award or administer contracts above the simplified acquisition threshold in an Executive Department on or before September 30, 2000 at grade level GS-11 or GS-12 continuously since that time.
